Much like our fixed route services, the demand for DARTT services will increase significantly during the holidays and through the winter. As we prepare, Lewis County Transit would like to offer a few reminders to help you plan your schedule.
DARTT services are currently intended for life-sustaining activities only, such as medical appointments, shopping for necessities, and employment transport. As much as we would like to expand our services, this must be done gradually and with special consideration to our operational capacity and the availability of our vehicle fleet.
Within these constraints, our operators may take certain measures to maximize our current service availability, including combining or rescheduling trips, or even canceling certain trips in order to prioritize those in a higher need category.
Our staff is very committed to serving the public and we do our best to serve as many riders as possible within our means. But ‘connecting our communities’ involves cooperation on all sides. With this in mind, we would make a few suggestions to our esteemed riders to help all of us more easily navigate this busy season:
- Plan your ride in advance. Currently, DARTT rides can be booked 6 days in advance for adults and 2 weeks in advance for youth.
- Take advantage of fixed route services as much as possible. Not only will this reduce the cost of your transport, but our fixed route buses have much more capacity and run on a more predictable schedule.
- Stay aware of closures and inclement weather. Holidays and weather that affect our fixed routes also affect our DARTT and LIFTT availability.
- Notify us ASAP if you need to reschedule or cancel. No-shows greatly impact our staff’s availability and the experience of other riders, and may eventually suspend or disqualify you from utilizing our door-to-door transport.
- Budget extra time in your schedule. DARTT is a shared door-to-door transport service, meaning that you may share your trip with other riders in order for us to serve as many as possible. Please account for additional pick-ups and drop-offs along your trip.
- Don’t forget to book your return trip! When you book a DARTT trip, always make arrangements for your return, too. Especially as we accommodate more passengers through the holidays, our on-demand availability may be limited and we would hate to leave you stranded!
- Please be patient with drivers and other passengers. Our staff work hard to accommodate you, and other riders deserve respect, as well. A little patience and kindness go a long way as we navigate this season together.
Lewis County Transit continuously assesses our operations for opportunities to expand services and improve rider experiences. As always, we thank you for your patience and feedback while we strive to improve.
